Created in partnership with the Bulldogs Unleashed pubic art campaign to raise funds for the Batavia Parks Foundation, Batavia Public Library Foundation, and Batavia School District Foundation of Educational Excellence.
Foodie Dog is decorated with more than 25 food items from Batavia’s favorite food establishments and popular produce goodies from the Batavia Farmer’s Market, all crowd-sourced content from the community with artistic embellishments.
Foodie was on display at the Chapters Coffeehouse & Cafe in Batavia, Illinois, May - September, 2018, until the organization’s Auction & Raffle Event on September 15. The fundraiser was a success, raising nearly $75,000, allocating $25,000 for each of the public organizations.
Over the summer 2018, I had the opportunity to help restore and paint a pair of 1940s coin-operated rider horses for Funway Ultimate Entertainment Center. We tried to identify the original brand, but unfortunately couldn’t find it on either piece or after some research.
I partnered with Sivwright Customs to get these beauties back in shape. They repaired the damaged fiber glass body, primed and sanded the pair, as well as applied the final clear coat after I did the custom paint job.
The client wanted a ‘male’ and ‘female’ horse, in a more traditional style, but I truly think kids will love both of them equally. I think I was channeling my own childhood favorite, She-Ra’s horse, Swift Wind, for the golden-haired horse. This was a different kind of paint project, pushing me a little outside my comfort zone, which I really enjoyed.
If you’d like to check out these coin-operated horses in person, stop by Funway Arcade, located at 1335 S River St, Batavia, IL 60510.
